Spelling Tip 3

If children are to become better at spelling, they need to practise their spelling words EVERY NIGHT!! No excuses!!!

It is very obvious when children don't practise at home each night; these are the children who continually make the same spelling errors and whose progress is much slower than the children who practise each night.

Spelling Tip 2

Cut Up is an excellent activity for helping the students to study and learn their spelling words.

The students look at their spelling word and say it aloud: road
As they are saying the word, they are looking at the letter patterns and the sounds they make.

They then cut the word into parts: r  oa  d

This would be a great activity to do once a week as part of homework as it helps the students to see how letters patterns make certain sounds in words.

Spelling Tip 1

Research shows that the Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check method to learn spelling words is much more effective that writing out words over and over and over. We use this method in class during Spelling Rotations, so the students are very familiar with how it works.
